EDBDA Jazz Band

Lead Trumpet, Bass Trombone, we will follow the OkMEA audition process, which is as follows:

Lead Trumpet:
It was voted at the February 2024 Jazz meeting that we will no longer audition separately for Lead Trumpet.

Bass Trombone:
The Bass Trombone will continue to be its own instrument category.

DRUMSET - These are the current requirements, but edits will be made.

Drummers will also play 8 (OKJE is 16) bars each of the following styles - edits will be made according to selected charts:

Funk at 110 bpm
Swing at 110 bpm
Double-Time Swing at 220 bpm
Double-Time Swing Trading Fours (four bars of time, four bars of solo) at 220 bpm
Samba at 220 bpm
Jazz Waltz at 220 bpm

Drummers will play each 8-bar (OKJE sixteen-bar) phrase in the prescribed order, as one continuous etude, then after a short pause, play eight bars of swing ballad with brushes at 80 bpm

The audition site will provide a drum set. Students who want to use their own drum set need to set up prior to the audition start time.  Audition times will be posted on the day of auditions.

Sight-Reading:
All students will sight-read following their prepared audition.

Improvisation:
This will now be a required part of the audition (OKJE is optional). Play two, twelve-bar blues choruses in the key of F. The accompaniment source for the audition is from:
